Bike Update 2

Yes, it’s true: I do still exist. 8 months since my last post, I thought I’d add another update.
First, I scrapped the Triple project. There are times when a project no longer seems worth it. Between trying to swap engines, adapt one engine to electronic ignition, etc., I decided to cut my losses. All Triple parts have now been sent to new homes (from project-seekers to eBay to the landfill), and it was impressive how much room that gave me in my garage.
Of course, for Americans, our stuff usually expands to fill the available space. So, appropriately, I added Jack to the family. (All of our vehicles get names, with the exception of those that will go back on the market.) Jack is a brand-new, 2013 Honda NC700X. He’s a lot of fun, taking me on various rides here and there (like this one up past Foresthill, CA), and even taking me to work most days.
The addition of Jack begs the question – will I do any more project bikes? Don’t tell my wife, but I’m pondering it. (Yes, Honey, I realize you do read these…) I still love the idea of doing a custom cafe racer/tracker-style bike, and I miss the wrenching and tinkering. Of course, the Triple project taught me a lot of lessons, so I have a more refined set of criteria when purchasing a bike based on my current capabilities. Also, I know I should plan on outsourcing certain bits of work – rebuilding the engine, metal work, etc.
I’ll post more updates if/when I embark on another project.
